The phychic pleasure, and sometimes physical orgasm , achieved by a sadist during an act of cruelty to another. Since the only two lexicographers who list this term, Roger Blake in The American Dictionary of Adult Sexual Terms (1964) and John Trimble in 5000 Adult Sex Words and Phrases (1966), are both from the mid-1960s, we may assume that it was drawn from the psychological terminology of the time.
